Speech and Drama in education
At Making a Scene we believe that speech and drama is a valuable aspect of education. The skills developed at Making a Scene can open doors of opportunity and develop foundation skills that support life long learning.
Studio Workshops
for small groups
Making a Scene teacher and director, Helen Morton-Jones offers specialist speech and drama classes for small groups.
Studio Workshops run during term time term with children working towards particular goals. These classes are offered to students interested in honing their skills specifically in the areas of speaking and acting with a view to future endeavors.
Each year students attending Studio Workshops have the opportunity to enter competitions at local and national Performing Arts Festivals and are given the choice of entering Trinity Guildhall London or Speech New Zealand grade levels, up to Diploma level.
Studio Workshops present children with the opportunity to develop a richer experience in speech and drama. Through the exploration of language, voice, characterization and movement. Children will gain skills they can use in every aspect of life. These include:
- Oral presentation skills
- Reading aloud for context and impact
- Confidence in interpersonal exchanges
- Clarity and energy in communication
- Effective listening
- Verse speaking
- Speaking, text exploration, script work
- Improvisation for individuals, pairs and groups
- Mime
- Characterization
Children will benefit from the small numbers of students in Studio Workshop groups. Tuition will be tailored to meet the individual needs of each child; this will be at the discretion of the tutor Helen Morton-Jones.
